If you grew up with jello eggs, you probably remember the bright colors, the jiggle, and the excitement of getting something fun and sweet.
These homemade gelatin eggs keep all the fun, but swap the artificial dyes, excess sugar, and questionable ingredients for real food your body actually benefits from.
This is also one of my favorite ways to add in extra nourishment for pregnancy, postpartum, and for my kids and once you master gelatin gummies, you can make them for every holiday and occasion!
Why I Love Gelatin (Especially for Mamas + Kids)
Gelatin is one of those simple but powerful foods that I come back to over and over again in my practice.
It’s rich in amino acids like glycine and proline, which support gut lining integrity, skin, hair, and nail health, joint and connective tissue support, and nervous system regulation.
During pregnancy, protein needs increase and most women aren’t getting enough of the right kinds. Gelatin is an easy, gentle way to add in additional protein while supporting tissue growth and repair.
Postpartum, this becomes even more important. Your body is recovering, rebuilding, and often depleted. Gelatin can support tissue healing, hormonal balance through amino acids like glycine, and even better sleep quality. In fact, I recommend all my mamas make gelatin while in early labor (or have someone make it for them) so its ready right after giving birth.
For kids, it’s one of the easiest wins. It has a fun texture, a naturally sweet taste, and supports gut health and growing bodies. It turns something that feels like a treat into something that actually nourishes.
Ingredients
2 cups juice of choice
3 Tbsp gelatin
1 Tbsp honey (optional, depending on juice)
Juice Ideas
Pomegranate (deep purple/red)
Lemonade (bright yellow)
Orange juice or an orange/carrot combo is fun
Tart cherry juice
Apple juice
Coconut water for a lighter, more subtle flavor
Instructions
Divide the juice into two equal parts (1 cup and 1 cup). Pour one cup into a bowl and sprinkle the gelatin over the top. Let it sit for 3–5 minutes to bloom.
Heat the remaining cup of juice on the stovetop until warm, not boiling. Stir in honey if desired.
Pour the warm juice into the bloomed gelatin and whisk until fully dissolved.
Pour into silicone molds and refrigerate for 2–3 hours, or until fully set.
Gently remove from molds and serve.
Mold Ideas (Because Yes, I Have a Whole Drawer)
If you’re anything like me, you’ll end up with a full drawer of silicone molds for every holiday.
Egg molds are perfect for Easter, but you can also use bunny shapes, flowers, stars, or seasonal molds for any occasion.
You can shop my favorite molds here on Amazon.
Notes + Tips
Adjust sweetness depending on your juice—some don’t need honey at all.
Silicone molds make removal much easier.
Store in the fridge for up to 4–5 days.
The Gelatin I Use
Quality matters here. Not all gelatin is created equal.
I personally use and recommend Further Food gelatin. It dissolves well, has a clean taste, and is sourced well. You can get it here.
A Better Treat
This is one of my favorite examples of how we don’t have to remove fun foods—we just upgrade them.
Same nostalgia, better ingredients, and actually supportive for your body.
And if your kids are anything like mine, they’ll just think they’re getting jello.
